With the Fed's filing suit against Arizona it's going to get interesting very quickly. If the AZ law is found constitutional it will open the flood gates of other states doing the same.

I'm afraid you are correct. Maybe they should all be sent to Iowa?

Seriously, I'm a little more Republican on this issue. You have to control the borders or any deal we make with illegal Mexicans is a waste of time. Obama is really in a tight spot here. He needs the Mexican-American vote but the country has very little interest in deals with illegals unless it includes throwing out those that don't take the deal.

| I think most people want the borders closed and then we can figure out what to do with the ones that are here. |

The thing that bewilders me the most about this issue is that the Libs are calling for laws to fine and or imprison employers for hiring illegals, putting the governments burden onto business.
So as i understand it they want to allow them to have free health care, education and welfare, because it would be inhumane to deny these services to these "poor souls" that are "just trying to make a better life for their families" AND we want to be sure that they can not legally hold a job.
They sound like model Democrats to me!
I would think if we denied them the critical services and the employment there would be no point in climbing the fence to start with.
And if they sneak in send them back home AFTER they serve their sentence for breaking our laws.
Seems so simple to me. |

Looks like the meat of the law in Arizona was put on hold. I personnaly agree with the courts decision, however when are the Feds going to get after this problem? More states have these same laws pending. People are going to start taking things into their own hands.

Ern, I thought you were more republican on this issue. As I understand it, parts of the law were stopped, not all of it. One part that was stopped, was an item that said Immigrants must carry I.D. (green card etc.) The judge obviously didn't read the federal law, because it says the same thing.

I am a more conservative on this issue, but the Federal government clearly has the power to control immigration, not the States. Even Bush was soft on this issue. But Arizona is providing leadership on the issue and more being rabble rousers to bring the issue to the light of day I give them the ErniedD Democratic pat on the back.

Ern - Agreed that this issue is the responsibilty of the Fed. gov but it is a multi prong one that requires a number of "actions" to resolve. Some of the Arizona activists would have one think that it is just a seal the borders solution via injecting our Armed Forces into the equation. And then those same troops would be on patrol to locate illegals in the country????
It is a problem that needs immediate attention but also needs serious, viable solutions.
a] better border protection [this is in process - more border patrol agents, national guard back up, TSA and Homeland Security efforts at airports and ports, Coast Guard patrols
b] path to citizen ship for most illegal already here [what are we going to do - go door to door to round them up? And remember our Armed Forces are prohibited from operating in the US .
C] better monitoring of companies that abuse the situation _________________ Bill Green |

A path to citizenship is a good idea, I like it, but we are still going to be stuck with the ones that don't want to be citizens and as that piece that Minnis posted suggests, it won't be a few. So we are going to have to round them up at some point. It's going to get uglier and uglier.
